What are the eligibility requirements for a CPL in India?

How many flying hours do you need for a CPL?
Paragraph 1(e) of Section J sets the flying experience. The 200 hours is a total; the rows beneath it are minimums that sit inside that total, not additions to it.

A holder of a Commercial Pilot’s Licence (Helicopters) or Airline Transport Pilot’s Licence (Helicopters) with not less than 1,000 hours as pilot-in-command of a helicopter has the 200-hour requirement reduced to 100 hours, under the proviso to paragraph 1(e).

What if I did not take Mathematics in Class 12?
Paragraph 1(b) asks for Physics and Mathematics at 10+2 level from a recognised Board or University. Students who took Biology or Commerce clear both subjects as private candidates through NIOS and then apply. It adds time, not a barrier.
Do the 200 hours have to be flown in India?
No. Section J counts total flight time as pilot of an aeroplane, wherever it was logged. Hours built with a partner school in the USA, Canada or Australia count towards the same total, and the DGCA issues the Indian licence after conversion.
What happens if my flying hours are more than five years old?
Paragraph 1(e) requires the 200 hours to fall inside the five years immediately preceding your application. Hours flown before that window stop counting. A long gap between finishing the flying and filing the application costs real money, so plan the two together.
Is RTR (A) one of the DGCA CPL papers?
No. RTR (A) sits under a separate instrument, the Radio Telephone Operator (Restricted) Certificate and Licence Rules, 2025, and the DGCA administers it directly. You still need it: paragraph 1(g) makes a current Flight Radio Telephone Operator Licence a condition of CPL issue.
